The electricity bill is certainly one of the more unwelcome pieces of mail that comes, like clockwork, every month in the mailbox. Although no one is going to suggest that people are going to revert to earlier ways of life and give up all of the modern comfort associated with electricity, through responsible use it is possible to still enjoy those comforts and to reduce your electricity bill.
Through some handy power saver appliances, or through careful monitoring of your energy use, you can save electricity and reduce the amount of kilowatts that your power meter clocks on a monthly basis. Reducing your electricity bill isn't just going to help out your pocket book, it is also going to help the environment. When you reduce your electricity bill, the reason that you are paying less money is because you are consuming less electricity.
If every person in a country the size of the United States could reduce their energy, even by only the amount that is saved by installing some power save appliances, there would be a global excess of enough energy that would be more than reasonable to power many small countries. The reduction of impact on the environment that would be created by such a savings should be some great added incentive beyond the financial reasons to save electricity.
An important part of trying to save electricity is to monitor your power meter yourself. Rather than waiting for your bills to come. This can be done by setting checkpoints in order to see what your meter is saying. This will give you a tangible idea of how much energy you are consuming. By monitoring it yourself, you can also see the impact that any changes you implement are having. Obviously, this can give you a sense of real accomplishment when you see that your steps are actually effectively reducing your power consumption.
